Mishary Rashid Al Afasy--Surah Waqiah

Al-Waqiah is an Arabic name that means Inevitable, Event or Revolution. It is the 56th Surah of the Quran, and it was revealed in Makkah.

The total number of verses in this surah are 96 and it starts with "Izaa waqa'atil Waqiah" which means "when the inevitable cometh to pass".

Like with many other surahs, Sura Al-Waqia also has benefits from recitation:

Abdullah ibn Mas'ud reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said,

"Whoever recites surah al Waqiah at night would never encounter poverty" [Ibn as-Sunni 620, Bayhaqi]

The Prophet Muhammad (salAllahu alayhi wasalam)also said:

"Surah al Waqiah is the Surah of Wealth, so recite it and teach it to your children" [Ibn Asakir]

"Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi raji’un"

Allah the Most High says,

“And certainly we shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to As-Sabirun (the patient). Who, when afflicted with calamity, say, “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi raji’un (Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return).” They are those on whom are the Salawat ( i.e who are blessed and will be forgiven) from their Lord, and ( they are those who) receive His Mercy, and it is they who are the guided ones."
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:155-157)

Ibn Al- Qayyim mentioned the Hadeeth of Al-Istirja and then he said:

This expression is one of the most effective and most beneficial treatments for one who is afflicted by calamities, because it contains two fundamental principles, which if they are realized, the slave will be consoled thereby from his calamity.(Al- Istirja’: saying the words: “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi raji’un”) Verily, we are for Allah and to Him we shall return.

(This Hadeeth was narrated by Muslim and Ahmad, on the authority of Umm Salamah radi Allahu anhu.)

The first of them is that the slave and his wealth belong to Allah and He has given it to him as a loan.

The second of them is that the return is to Allah and it is inevitable that he will leave the life of this world behind; so if this is his beginning and his end, then his thinking about them is one of the greatest treatments for this illness and a part of his treatment is that he knows that what was ordained to afflict him cannot miss him and what was ordained to miss him cannot afflict him.

And a part of it is that his Lord has set aside for him the like of that which he missed or better and He has stored up for him that which is many times better than the calamity and that if He had willed, He could have made the calamity greater than it was.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

"When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except three: sadaqah jaariyah (ongoing charity, e.g. a waqf or endowment), beneficial knowledge (which he has left behind), or a righteous child who will pray for him."

(Reported by al-Tirmidhi, no 1376; he said this is a saheeh hasan hadeeth)

Fadhilat beristighfar

1. Tuturkata/percakapan yang baik. Yang paling utama ialah terhadap keluarga sendiri. Ertinya tidak menyakitkan hati. Inilah rahsianya bagaimana hendak menambat hati suami.

Diriwayatkan, Saidatina Khadijah ra, isteri Rasulullah SAW yang pertama, tidak pernah menyinggung hati Rasulullah walau sedikit pun. Sepanjang hayat baginda SAW, hati baginda dipenuhi dengan Khadijah, sehingga sering menyebut nama beliau. Kadangkala hingga menimbulkan perasaan cemburu dikalangan isteri-isteri baginda.

2. Memberi salam.

3. Memaniskan wajah.

Juga terutamanya kepada ahli keluarga. Rasulullah SAW pernah bersabda,
'Kamu senyum sahaja pun sudah menjadi sedekah.'

Terdapat suatu syair Arab yang berbunyi :

'Nak buat baik, sangatlah mudah, Maniskan wajah, lembutkan lidah.'

Marilah kita bertafakkur dan bermuhasabah diri-diri kita.

Salah-ad-Din Al-Ayyubi

From Saudi Gazette :
(17th. July 2009)

The man behind the armor.
(By Abu Sabaya)

HE defied the odds in an era of darkness. He set aside the criticism of those who called him crazy for wanting to do the seemingly impossible: uniting the Ummah, standing up to the Crusaders, and returning honor where it belonged. He was respected by both his friends and foes, and is perhaps one of the few men whose name evokes feelings of honor and pride in the minds of so many people in every era and place.

He had the Crusaders chasing their tails in the battles of Alexandria, Hittin, Acre, Tyre, Beirut, Nablus, Haifa, Tiberius, Gaza, ‘Asqalan, Jerusalem, and dozens of other cities and towns across Sham and North Africa. He is popularly known as Salah-ad-Din the warrior.

But, who was the man behind the armor? How was he as a person, and as a Muslim? What personality does it take to carry out such heroic feats and achieve such a status?

In Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah (13/5-6), Ibn Kathir said that at the time of his death, Salah-ad-Din hardly had any money in his possession, and this was because:
“…of the immense amount of gifts and charity and kindness that he used to show the leaders and ministers under his command, and even to his enemies.

“He was very simple in his clothing, food, drink, and transportation. He would only wear cotton, linen, and wool. It is not known that he ever approached anything forbidden or discouraged, especially after Allah blessed him with his kingdom. Rather, his greatest concern and goal was to aid Islam.”

Ibn Kathir continued:
“He was very strict in praying on time in the jama’ah (congregation). It is said that he never missed a single prayer in jama’ah for a great part of his life, even during the illness that killed him. The imam would enter and lead him in prayer, and he would struggle to get up and pray despite his weakness.”

“He loved to hear the recitation of the Qur’an and the reading of hadith and knowledge. He was constant and habitual in listening to ahadith being read to him, to the point that he would hear a section read to him while he was standing between the ranks of soldiers!”

Ibn Kathir also mentioned: “He had a soft heart, and was easily swayed to tears when he would hear ahadith.

“And Salah-ad-Din was from the bravest of people, and the strongest of them in body and heart despite the illnesses and sickness his body suffered from. This was most evident during the Siege of Acre, where despite the massive numbers of the enemy, he only increased in power and bravery.”

He also said:
“He was generous, well-rounded, always laughing and smiling. He would never slack off in any good that he did. He was extremely patient when doing good and worshipping Allah.”

In ‘Siyar A’lam An-Nubala” (15/436), it’s mentioned that Al-Muwaffaq Abdul Latif said:
“I went to Salah-ad-Din while he was in Jerusalem, and I saw a king who filled eyes with amazement and hearts with love, whether they were near or far. The first night I spent with him, I found his gatherings filled with scholars engaged in knowledge. He would listen intently and participate in their discussions. He would learn how to build walls and dig trenches, and he would then do this himself, carrying the rocks on his own shoulders.”

Al-’Imad said in ‘As-Siyar’ (15/440):
“He would only wear what was permissible to wear, such as linen and cotton. His gatherings were free of vain talk, and they were only attended by the most virtuous of people. He loved to hear ahadith being read with their chains of narration. He was forebearing, honest, pious, pure, and trustworthy. He would contain himself and not become angry. He would never turn back someone in need or embarrass someone who spoke in front of him. He was extremely kind and charitable and I never saw him praying except in jama’ah.”

Adh-Dhahabi said about his death: “And I never saw a king whose death people were sad for except him. This is because he was loved by everyone: he was loved by the righteous and the wicked, the Muslim and the Kafir.” This was Salah-ad-Din Al-Ayyubi. This was the man behind the armor. This was his lifestyle and character, and it was nothing other than this that served as the platform for the amazing feats across the lands that we remember him for today.

Such lifestyle and character is something you will find common between all legends of Islam, whether scholars, leaders or martyrs. You always find them paying great attention to the daily recitation of the Qur’an, studying of the Shariah, giving lots of charity, avoiding useless talk, and living simple lives free of luxury and excessive comfort. This is really the way to success. There is no way you can dream of defending the Shariah if you don’t even have the willpower to implement it in your daily life.

What is interesting is Salah-ad-Din wasn’t always like this. Adh-Dhahabi mentions in ‘As-Siyar’ (15/434 and 436):
“Since his time as a ruler, he abandoned alcohol and worldly pleasures.”
“He used to drink alcohol, and then repented from it.”

That’s right. Salah-ad-Din Al-Ayyubi – this righteous man who singlehandedly changed the course of history – loved to drink and indulge in worldly pleasures. But he repented and transformed his life. This small fact teaches us a mighty lesson: not everyone is born in a life of righteousness. The great people we love and admire were not born with virtue. It also gives us hope that no matter how insignificant or lost we think we are, we can become someone truly great Insha Allah. – SG

Isra' and Mi'raj

"Glory to ((Allah)) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless,- in order that We might show him some of Our Signs: for He is the One Who heareth and seeth (all things)." [Al-Quran ~ Al-Isra'(17):1]

Israa': Was the prophet's trip from Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem

Mi'raj: Was the Prophet's journey to Heaven.

It is one of the miraculous experiences that Allah has blessed and honored prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) with.

The Prophet (pbuh) and the small group of early Muslims in Makkah had been suffering extensively from the Arab pagans of the Quraish tribe. The distress further increased when the Prophet went to the city of Taif where he was humiliated by the people of Taif who pelted him with stones. In this state of anguish, and a feeling of helplessness in front of his enemies he turned to Allah and made a fervent supplication. He ended the supplication by saying that as long as Allah is not displeased with him, then he will always be satisfied. Right after this event, the Israa and Miraj took place to honor him and to renew his courage and strive to serve Allah.

The experience was also a sign that all prophets go through hardship and that Allah was not displeased with him. There are many lessons we can also learn from the experience such as the truth of Islam, the full confidence of Abu Bakr in the prophet's trustworthiness, the establishment of the prayers, the importance of Jerusalem and its holy sites, etc.

Narrated Abu Huraira

On the night Allah's Apostle was taken on a night journey (Miraj) two cups, one containing wine and the other milk, were presented to him at Jerusalem. He looked at it and took the cup of milk. Gabriel said, "Praise be to Allah Who guided you to Al-Fitra (the right path); if you had taken (the cup of) wine, your nation would have gone astray."

Sunnahs when wearing CLOTHES

Rasulullah (SalallahuAlaihiWaSallam) loved white clothing.

When putting on any garment Rasulullah(SalallahuAlaihiWaSallam) always began with the right limb.

When removing any garment Rasulullah(SalallahuAlaihiWaSallam) always removed the left limb first.

Males must wear the clothes above the ankles and females must ensure that their lower garments cover their ankles.

Males should wear a topi or turban and females must wear scarves at all times.

When wearing shoes first wear the right shoe then left and while removing first remove left and then right.

**************************

Du'a when wearing clothes :

"All praise belongs to Allah who adorned me with clothing by which I cover (hide) my private areas and by which I obtain beauty in my life".

[Note: While removing clothing recite "Bismillah" as Satan does not look at the private parts due to this.]

When wearing new clothes

Recite:

"O Allah, all praise is to You, just as You have dressed me, I seek Your blessings of it and the blessings of what it is made of and I seek protection and Your refuge from all evil and the evil of that which it is made of".

(Mishkat)

Umar (R.A.) stated that Prophet Mohammad (SAW.) said that if a person recites the dua when dressing in new clothing and gives the old clothing in charity, then Allah will protect him both in this life and the Aakhirah and he will be under Allah's cover (i.e. he will be protected from all calamities and his sins will be hidden).

My Beloved

(Poem by : Rabi'ah al-Adawiyya ~ a major spiritual influence in the classical Islamic world, is one of the central figures of the spiritual tradition. She was born around the year 717 C.E. in what is now Iraq.)

My peace, O my brothers and sisters, is my solitude,
And my Beloved is with me always,
For His love I can find no substitute,
And His love is the test for me among mortal beings,

Whenever His Beauty I may contemplate,
He is my "mihrab", towards Him is my "qiblah"
If I die of love, before completing satisfaction,
Alas, for my anxiety in the world, alas for my distress,

O Healer (of souls) the heart feeds upon its desire,
The striving after union with Thee has healed my soul,
O my Joy and my Life abidingly,

You were the source of my life
and from Thee also came my ecstasy.
I have separated myself from all created beings,

My hope is for union with Thee,
for that is the goal of my desire.

Status of the Al-Qur'an

" When the Quran is read, listen to it with attention,
and hold your peace: that ye may receive Mercy
. " Quran Al-A'raf(7):204

Rasulullah (Sallallahualaihewasallam) said:
'When a man dies and his relatives are busy in funeral, there stands an extremely handsome man by his head.

When the dead body is shrouded, that man gets in between the shroud and the chest of the deceased.

When after the burial, the people return home, 2 angels, Munkar and Nakeer(names of two special Angels), come in the grave and try to separate this handsome man so that they may be able to interrogate the dead man in privacy about his faith.

But the handsome man says, 'He is my companion, he is my friend. I will not leave him alone in any case. If you are appointed for interrogation, do your job. I cannot leave him until I get him admitted into Paradise '.

Thereafter he turns to his dead companion and says, 'I am the Qur'an, which you used to read, sometimes in a loud voice and sometimes in a low voice. Do not worry. After the interrogation of Munkar and Naker, you will have no grief.'

When the interrogation is over, the handsome man arranges for him from Al-Mala'ul A'laa (the angels in Heaven) silk bedding filled with musk.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) said:
'On the Day of Judgement, before Allah, no other Intercessor will have a greater status than the Qur'an, neither a Prophet nor an angel.'

Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate from the truth after You have guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Your grace. Verily You are the Giver of bounties without measure. (3:8)

[Wahai Tuhan kami! (Al-Imran : 8)]

Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and the lack of moderation in our doings, and make firm our steps and succour us against those who deny the truth. (3:147)

[Wahai Tuhan kami! (Al-Imran : 147)]

Our Lord! Whomsoever You shall commit to the Fire, truly You have brought [him] to disgrace, and never will wrongdoers find any helpers (3:192)

BE THANKFUL

(video done by : armadagroove ~ January 08, 2008)

*************************************

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire,
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge
Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary
Because it means you've made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also
thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles and they
can become your blessings.
