Wait, O weary courier, pen a salute on a letter

Even if the darkness followed you,

you have to accomplish your mission

And if they (The ones we sent the letter to) enquired after us,

thank them and tell them:

they are the way you remember

Your defendant is absent,

and the verdict is impermissible in absence

A person must deliberate, and judge fairly

Don't mistake us to be the source of this injustice,

it's justice we give and take

Do us a favor (O courier)

and carry to them our salute and greetings

Tell them the restless sorrowful

is spending the nights raving about them

Thoughts and suspicions are playing us

A sorrow we hide in the heart

fearing some people will disgrace us

Tell that the One we thank the most (Allah)

knows all that is public or secret

He (Allah) knows what you are

but He (Allah) tests his servant with ordeals

Whoever wants his final destination to be the heaven,

he wouldn't accept a poor spirit

For some, dreams are all what they do,

and for others they make their dreams come true

And the one who says: Lord, I have faith!,

will never bare despair and suspicion

This one becomes stronger with Qur'an and Sunnah,

and when The Caller Calls (Allah) he responds

we still remember our promise and we will fulfill it

As I sit here alone, the tears rolling down my face

It is not salt, but pain that I taste

So I leave now to go stand before You

I am helpless and alone, what else can I do?

I have asked, I have begged but my sins block my du'a

I will come now still begging, forgive me O Allah

Forgive me and grant me what it is that I ask

For me it is impossible but for You a simple task

I try and I try but I do not succeed

But I understand and know it is because Your Words I do not heed

I hear, yes I hear but I do not always obey

Perhaps that is why I am destitute, isolated and why You have written that I will be alone this way

I have no one to blame but the person in the mirror I see

No one else must pay for my sins,
no one else, no one else,
no one else but me

So I stand before You to again beg forgiveness because You said that I can

You have told us in Your Book that You are Ar-Rahman

I will ask, I will beg but my sins block my du'a

But I will keep asking, forgive me O Allah.

Power of “Istighfar”

(A moving story from the life of Imam Ahmad)

This story about "Istighfar" (seeking forgiveness from Allah) is from the life of Imam Ahmed Bin Hanbal, who is considered as a renowned scholar of Islam and a famous theologian. Imam Ahmed is also considered to be the founder of the Hanbali school of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and is one of the most celebrated Sunni theologians, often referred to as the "Sheikh ul-Islam" or the "Imam of Ahl al-Sunnah."

During his old age, while Imam Ahmed was travelling he stopped by a town. After the prayers, he wanted to stay for the night in the masjid yard because he didn't know anyone in the town. Owing to his humility, he hadn't introduced himself to anyone thinking that if he did, he would be welcomed by many people.

Failing to recognize Ahmed bin Hanbal, the caretaker of the mosque refused to let him stay in the mosque. As Imam Ahmed was quite old, the caretaker had to drag him out of the mosque. On seeing this, a baker from a nearby place felt pity for this man (Imam Ahmed) and offered to be the host to him for the night.


During his stay with the baker, Imam Ahmed observed that the baker would constantly recite Istighfar (seek forgiveness from Allah). Imam Ahmed asked the baker if the constant practice of saying Istighfar had any effect on him. The baker responded by telling Imam Ahmed that Allah had accepted all of his duas (supplications), except one.


When he asked him what dua was it that hadn't been accepted, the baker replied that he had been asking Allah to provide him the privilege to meet the famous scholar Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal.

On this, Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal said that Allah had not only listened to his dua but had dragged him onto his (the baker's) doorsteps.

This story is a reminder of the power of saying Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) frequently. Let's remember that the prophet used to say Istighfar frequently during the day.

Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) said,

"If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it and dies before the morning he will be from the people of Paradise."

Ikhlaas and Riyaa` - Part 3 (Riyaa')

These are some narrations brought by the Shaykh `Abdul-Malik ar-Ramadaanee (hafidhahullaah) in his excellent book "Sittu Durar":

In his book, al-Qawlus-Sadeed fee Maqaasid-it- Tawheed Sharhu Kitaab-ut-Tawheed (القول السديد في مقاصيد التوحيد شرح كتاب التوحيد) (which is an Explanation of the Book of the Imaam Muhammad ibn AbdulWahhaab rahimahullaah, Kitaab-ut-Tawheed ),


..the 'Allaamah, 'Abd-ur-Rahmaan ibn Naasir as-Sa'dee rahimahullaah mentions in the commentary of the Chapter 36: "What is said about Riyaa' (showing off)" and Chapter 37: "Intending deeds in the world for the sake of humans is a type of Shirk":



Know that sincerity for Allaah is the foundation of the Religion and the essence of Tawheed and worship. It is when the worshipper intends all of his deeds for the Face of Allaah, for His rewards, and His favours.


So he maintains the six foundations of faith, the five signs of Islaam, and the fulfillment of faith - ihsan - as well as the rights of Allaah and the rights of His worshippers.


In this way his intention is perfected for the Face of Allaah and for the abode of the Hereafter. He does not intend by this to be seen, nor to be heard of, nor does he do it for position, or for worldly matters. By this he will have completed his faith and tawheeed.



Among the worst behaviours that diminish sincerity is to perform deeds just to be seen by people, for their praise, or to honour them, or doing deeds for the sake of worldly matters. This degrades sincerity and tawheed.

The Triple Filter Test

During the golden Abbasid period, one of the scholars in Baghdad, the capital of Muslim caliphate at that time, was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem.

One day an acquaintance met the great scholar and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?"


"Hold on a minute," the scholar replied. "Before telling me anything I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."


"Triple filter?"


"That's right," the scholar continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say.


That's why I call it the triple filter test.

The first filter is Truth.

"Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"


"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and.."


"All right," said the scholar. "So you don't really know if it's true or not.


Now let's try the second filter, the filter of goodness.

"Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"


"No, on the contrary..."


"So," the scholar continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left:

the filter of usefulness.


"Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"


"No, not really."


"Well," concluded the scholar, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"


"O ye who believe! Let not some men among you laugh at others: It may be that the (latter) are better than the (former)"
