Allah (Alone) is fully sufficient

Surah Al-Imran (3 : 173)

"That is those to whom people said, “The people have gathered against you; so, fear them.” It increased them in Faith and they said, “Allah is fully sufficient for us, and the best One in whom to trust.” " (verse : 173)

(The saying) "Allaah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)" was said by Ibraahiim `alehi wa salaam when he was thrown into the fire; and it was said by Muhammad (salla Allahu `alehi wa salaam) when they (the hypocrites) said, "Verily, the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them", but it (only) increased them in Faith and they said "Allaah (Alone) is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs (for us)."

Seek forgiveness frequently

Bismillahirohmanirrohiim

Luqmaan said to his son, commanding him to seek forgiveness frequently, "Make your tongue accustomed to seeking forgiveness as there are hours when Allaah The Almighty does not let down a supplicating person."

Furthermore, Al-Hasan rahimu Allaah said, "Seek forgiveness frequently in your houses, at your tables, in your roads, markets, gatherings and wherever you go for you do not know when forgiveness is granted."

In addition, Qataadah said, "The Quran guides you to your illness and your cure. Your illness is sins and your cure is seeking forgiveness." The accursed Shaytaan (Satan) said, "I destroyed people with sins, and they destroyed me with saying 'Laa ilaaha illa Allaah (I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah)’ and seeking forgiveness."

Power of “Istighfar”

(A moving story from the life of Imam Ahmad)

This story about "Istighfar" (seeking forgiveness from Allah) is from the life of Imam Ahmed Bin Hanbal, who is considered as a renowned scholar of Islam and a famous theologian. Imam Ahmed is also considered to be the founder of the Hanbali school of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and is one of the most celebrated Sunni theologians, often referred to as the "Sheikh ul-Islam" or the "Imam of Ahl al-Sunnah."

During his old age, while Imam Ahmed was travelling he stopped by a town. After the prayers, he wanted to stay for the night in the masjid yard because he didn't know anyone in the town. Owing to his humility, he hadn't introduced himself to anyone thinking that if he did, he would be welcomed by many people.

Failing to recognize Ahmed bin Hanbal, the caretaker of the mosque refused to let him stay in the mosque. As Imam Ahmed was quite old, the caretaker had to drag him out of the mosque. On seeing this, a baker from a nearby place felt pity for this man (Imam Ahmed) and offered to be the host to him for the night.

During his stay with the baker, Imam Ahmed observed that the baker would constantly recite Istighfar (seek forgiveness from Allah). Imam Ahmed asked the baker if the constant practice of saying Istighfar had any effect on him. The baker responded by telling Imam Ahmed that Allah had accepted all of his duas (supplications), except one.

When he asked him what dua was it that hadn't been accepted, the baker replied that he had been asking Allah to provide him the privilege to meet the famous scholar Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal.

On this, Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal said that Allah had not only listened to his dua but had dragged him onto his (the baker's) doorsteps.

[Summarized from Al Jumuah magazine, vol 19, issue 7]

This story is a reminder of the power of saying Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) frequently. Let's remember that the prophet used to say Istighfar frequently during the day.

Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) said,

"If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it and dies before the morning he will be from the people of Paradise."

(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 75, Number 318)

Eid-ul-Adha

**************************

The Sunnah of Eid al-Adha

In keeping with the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad, Muslims are encouraged to prepare themselves for the occasion of Eid. Below is a list of things Muslims are recommended to do in preparation for the Eid al-Adha festival:

1. Wake up early (before sunrise).

2. Make wudu (ablution) and offer Salat al-Fajr (the pre-sunrise prayer).

3. Prepare for personal cleanliness - take care of details of clothing, etc.

4. Take a Ghusl (bath) after Fajr prayer.

5. Brush teeth (preferably with a miswak, or tooth-stick).

6. Dress up, putting on new or best clothes available (White, when available, is optimal.

7. Apply (alcohol free) perfume (attar) (men only).

8. It is customary to eat dates preferably or something before going to Eid prayers but you can't eat sacrificed meat as Sacrifice must be done after Eid prayers to be accepted as Sacrifice otherwise it becomes just normal meat and no reward for sacrifice.

9. Go to the prayer grounds (known as an 'Eidgah') early.

10. Offer Salat al-Eid (the congregational Eid prayer) in an open place, weather permitting, or in mosque.

11. Use two separate routes when travelling to and from the Eid prayer location.

12. Recite the following Takbir which starts at Maghrib (sunset) on the 9th of Dhu al-hijah and last until the Asr on the 12th Dhu al-ilhijah:

Allahu-Akbar, Allahu-Akbar, Allahu-Akbar. La ilaha illa-lah wallahu-Akbar. Allahu-Akbar wa-lillahil-hamd, which translates to: "Allah (God) is the Greatest (3 times); there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest and to Him are due all praises."

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Al-Quran : As-Saaffat(37) : 100 - 111

"My Lord! Grant me (offspring) from the righteous." (100)

So We gave him the glad tidings of a forbearing boy. (101)

And, when he (his son) was old enough to walk with him, he said: "O my son! I have seen in a dream that I am slaughtering you (offer you in sacrifice to Allâh), so look what you think!" He said: "O my father! Do that which you are commanded, Inshâ' Allâh (if Allâh will), you shall find me of As-Sâbirun (the patient)." (102)

Then, when they had both submitted themselves (to the Will of Allâh), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (or on the side of his forehead for slaughtering); (103)

And We called out to him: "O Abraham! (104)

You have fulfilled the dream!" Verily! thus do We reward the Muhsinûn (good-doers - see V.2:112). (105) Verily, that indeed was a manifest trial. (106)

And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice (i.e. کبش - a ram); (107)

And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among the later generations. (108)

Salâmun (peace) be upon Ibrâhim (Abraham)!" (109)

Thus indeed do We reward the Muhsinûn (good-doers - see V.2:112). (110)

Verily, he was one of Our believing slaves. (111)

Ikhlaas and Riyaa` - Part 4 (Riyaa')

There are some details about Riyaa':

If a worshipper does a deed with the goal of having people see it, and he remains with this evil intention, then his deed is disgraced, and he commits minor shirk, and he runs the risk of it leading him to major shirk.

If the worshipper does a deed intending the Face of Allaah AND with that, he is also intending it for the sight of people - if he does not remove the riyaa' from his deed, then the texts are clear that this deed is also false.

When the worshipper does a deed for the Face of Allaah alone but riyaa' surfaces for an instant during the deed, if he wards it off and purifies his sincerity for Allaah, then there is no harm in that deed.

But if he settles for that - becoming tranquil with it - then the value of the deed diminishes, resulting in a weakening of his faith in proportion to the amount of riya' that survived in his heart. Still, the deed remains for Allaah, but whatever portion of it he mixed up and was confused about is riyaa'.

Riyaa is a dangerous disease which requires the soul to hasten to disciplining itself in sincerity, to wage war in defence against the destruction caused for riyaa', to oppose its assault, seeking Allaah's help to defend against it, so that perhaps Allaah will purify the worshipper's faith and complete his tawheed.

Ikhlaas and Riyaa` - Part 2 (Ikhlaas)

It has been stated in definition of Ikhlaas,

"It is to single out Allaah, free from all imperfection, in one's intention (qasd) in one's obedience (to Him)."

Hammaad bin Zaid said,

"I used to walk with Ayyoob (as-Sakhtiyanee) and he would take me through different routes. I would be surprised at how he would guide himself through them, fleeing from (being seen by) the people who might say, "This is Ayyoob"."

He also said, "Ayyoob used to take me via a route that was the longest and I would say "But this one is closer",

He would reply, "I fear from (passing by these) gatherings".

When he would pass by them and give salutations, they would reply to him with more than what he had greeted them, compared to others.

So he would say, "O Allaah, you know that I did not desire this! O Allaah, you know that I did not desire this."

A Deed Few People Practice

Abdullah ibn 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad(peace and blessings be upon him) said,

“There are two characteristics that whenever the Muslim maintains them will enter Jannah. These two traits are easy to possess. However, only a few people acquire them.

Say “ Subhanallah” ten times, “Al-Hamduillah” ten times and “Allahu Akbar” ten times at the end of each Salah. By practicing this deed you earn one hundred and fifty rewards for your tongue and one thousand five hundred for the scale (of good deeds).

And before you go to sleep say “Subhanallah” thirty three times, Al-Hamdulilah” thirty three times and Allahu Akbar thirty four times. By saying these words before you sleep you gain one hundred good deeds for your tongue and one thousand deeds for the scale.

The companions asked” Oh messenger, How is that these deeds are easy, yet few people do them?

The Prophet(peace be upon him) said,” Right after a person finishes praying Shaitan comes to him and reminds him of something that he has to do. Therefore this person gets up and leaves without saying these words. Additionally, when he lies in his bed Shaitan comes to him and causes him to fall asleep before he mentions these words.

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr(may Allah be pleased with him)said , “ I saw the Messenger of Allah(May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him)say these words using his hand to count them.

(Collected by Abu Dawud(5065), At-Tirmithi( 3410)Nisa’i(926)and Ahmed(2/205) Imam An-Nawwawee graded the isnad of this hadeeth as being Saheeh and Imam At-Tirmithi said this hadeeth is Hasan Saheeh.)

Benefits derived from this hadeeth:

~ The invocation and the mention of Allah’s names are a means for the servant to enter Jannah.

~ Good deeds are multiplied by ten or more.

~ The scale is a fact.

~ Counting the glorification of Allah is done using the hands.

~ Shaitan is persistent with his whispers to the son of Adam during prayer and at bed time.

(end of Explanation)

We ask Allah to extend His mercy and allow us to practice this deed daily.

Tawbah (Repentance) ~ Istighfar Zikr

Literally means 'to return' and in an Islamic context, it refers to the act of leaving what Allah SWT has prohibited and returning to what He has commanded.

Asking for forgiveness for our sins is something that must be sought sincerely and with consciousness. We should remember that it is only through Allah's Mercy that anyone will ever enter Paradise.

In Surah Az-Zumar (39:53) Allah SWT says : "Say, O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah. for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

We should never lose hope or stop asking for Allah's forgiveness. The Prophet Muhammad, Sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said: "O people! Turn to Allah in repentance and seek His forgiveness, for surely I make repentance a hundred times every day." (reported by Sahih Muslim)

The Prophet Muhammad, Sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam advised: "Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately, and rejoice, for no one's good deeds will put him in Paradise." The Companions asked, "Not even you O Messenger of Allah?" He replied. "Not even me unless Allah bestows His pardon and mercy on me." (reported by Abu Hurairah & 'Aa'ishah & collected by Al-Bukhari.)

Never despair of Allah's Mercy - no sin is too great to repent for or too little for that matter.

Take protection with your shields

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrates: Rasulullah (SAW) came to us and said: Take protection with your shields! Sahabah (Prophet's companions) asked: O Rasulullah! is there a threat of some enemy coming? He said: Take protection with your shields against the Fire (of Hell)! Say, Subhanallah (Allah is flawless), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illallah (None is worthy of worship but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). On the Day of Resurrection, these words will come from the front, back, right and left (defence from all sides) of the one who had recited them, and ensure deliverence for him, and these are those good deeds for which the reward will be given eternally.
