Abi Hurayraa reported that the Prophet (pbuh) said: "The bondservant shall continue to have his supplications answered so long as he does not supplicate for sin, or the severance of kinship; so long as he does not rush it."

They asked: O Messenger of Allah, what is "rushing it?"

He(pbuh) said [that]: "
he say I have supplicated, and supplicated, and I have not seen an answer"; thereupon, getting tired and abandoning supplication.

O Allah, place light in my heart, and on my tongue light,
and in my ears light and in my sight light,
and above me light, and below me light,
and to my right light, and to my left light,
and before me light and behind me light.

Place in my soul light.
Magnify for me light, and amplify for me light.
Make for me light and make me a light.

O Allah, grant me light, and place light in my nerves,
and in my body light and in my blood light
and in my hair light and in my skin light.

[O Allah, make for me a light in my grave... and a light in my bones.]

Duty to our parents/Doa buat kedua ibu bapa

In Islam it is obligatory for us to show kindness, respect, and obedience to our parents. To treat them politely ~ be gentle and devoted to them. We should not adopt rough and coarse attitude towards them, especially in their old age. We should not utter anything that might upset them.

"
Say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour". - Quran Al Isrâ'(17) : 23"

Narrated by 'Abdullah:

I asked the Prophet (pbuh) "Which deed is the dearest to God?" He(pbuh) replied, "To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times." I asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He(pbuh) replied, "
To be good and dutiful to your parents"...
(Bukhari)

Being dutiful to parents is one of the keys to enter Paradise

Abu Huraira reported Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) as saying:
"Let him be humbled into dust; let him be humbled into dust." It was said: God's Messenger, who is he? He(pbuh) said: "He who sees either of his parents during their old age or he sees both of them, but he does not enter Paradise (because he has been undutiful to them). (Muslim)

The Prophet (pbuh) was once asked by a companion: "O messenger of Allah! Are there any deeds that I could do to be of service to my prarents after they have passed away?"

The Prophet (pbuh), replied: "
Yes there are: you should supplicate for them and ask Allah to forgive them; you should carry out (fulfill) their promises; you should maintain good relations with your relatives ; and you should honour their friends."

(Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and Ibn Hibban)

Strive to be a virtuous son/daughter. Love your parents, so that your life will be happy and blissful and you will be protected from the wrath of Allah SWT.

"
O Allah! Forgive me my sins, and the sins of my parents, have mercy on them boths as they have looked after me when I was little"

Rasulullah SAW pernah bersabda :

"Setiap pagi sedekahkan al-Fatihah kepada kedua ibu bapamu ( tidak kira yang masih hidup atau yang telah tiada )".......... nescaya pintu rezekimu akan terbuka buat kamu"...

Berdasarkan Hadith Nabi SAW :

'YA ALLAH YA TUHANKU, ampunkan lah dosa2 kedua orang tua ku, berkatilah kedua mereka itu, sihatkan lah mereka, murahkan lah rezeki mereka, panjangkan lah usia mereka, jauhilah sebarang bahaya, Dan lindungi lah mereka, Aminn yarabillialamin. ..."

Wassalam.

Six Lessons from Tests and Trials

In Tests and Trials there are Lessons
- by Dr. Saleh as-Saleh (rahimahullah)

1. The first lesson – From the benefit of tests and trials is the influence it has on one’s tawheed (worship of Allaah), eemaan (faith) and tawakkul – reliance upon Allaah. It makes you examine the reality that man is a weak creation without any power or strength, except in your Lord. Therefore you resort to Him and depend on Him. Thereupon arrogance, false pride and negligence will be removed and you will come to know that you are really poor and in need of your Creator, the Almighty, the Most Perfect, and so you resort to Him.

2. The second lesson – Tests unravel the reality of this life. It is clarified to be a temporal stay for enjoyment, and the perfect life is the one which follows, wherein there is no toil, worry, fatigue or disease. Allaah سبحانه وتعالى stated this in Surah al-Ankaboot, verse 64.

{And this life of the world is only amusement and play! Verily, the home of the Hereafter – that is the life indeed (i.e. the eternal life that will never end), if they but knew.} [al-Ankaboot 29:64]

Even with this amusement and play there is also toil and fatigue. This is the reality of this life – one day life is smiling at you, and the other day it is turning its back on you. This is the nature of life, but man forgets that. The trials and tests come and they serve to remind man of the nature of this life and that he should not become attached to it.

3. The third lesson – The tests and trials remind the person of the favours bestowed upon him by Allaah. It is also a reminder that this life is transitional.

4. The fourth lesson – We are reminded to avoid being in a state of joy such that we feel arrogance and likewise to avoid a state of sadness and grief such that one feels despair. Allaah سبحانه وتعالى sates this in Surah al-Hadeed, verses 22-23:

{No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but it is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfooz) before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allaah. In order that you may not grieve at the things over that you fail to get, nor rejoice over that which has been given to you. And Allaah likes not every prideful boaster.} [al-Hadeed 57:22-23]

5. The fifth lesson – Trials and tests remind the person of his shortcomings and diseases (of the heart and actions) so that he can take preventive measures against them. Allaah سبحانه وتعالى says in Surah an-Nisaa’ verse79:

مَّا أَصَابَكَ مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ فَمِنَ اللّهِ وَمَا أَصَابَكَ مِن سَيِّئَةٍ فَمِن نَّفْسِكَ وَأَرْسَلْنَاكَ لِلنَّاسِ رَسُولاً وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ شَهِيدًا

{Whatever of good reaches you, is from Allaah, but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself. And We have sent you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) as a Messenger to mankind, and Allaah is Sufficient as a Witness.} [an-Nisaa’ 4:79]

And Allaah سبحانه وتعالى says in Surah as-Shooraa, verse 30:

وَمَا أَصَابَكُم مِّن مُّصِيبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتْ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَيَعْفُو عَن كَثِيرٍ

{And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.} [ash-Shooraa 42:30]

There is a chance for repentance before the greater torment occurs. Allaah سبحانه وتعالى says in Surah as-Sajdah, verse 21:

وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُمْ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَدْنَى دُونَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَكْبَرِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

{And verily, We will make them taste of the near torment (i.e. the torment in the life of this world, i.e. disasters, calamities) prior to the supreme torment (in the Hereafter), in order that they may (repent and) return (i.e. accept Islaam).} [as-Sajdah 32:21]

This lesser torment is in this life which is full of calamities, disasters and hardships.

6. The sixth lesson – Tests and trials serve as great teaching processes through which one learns patience. We cannot be firm upon truth and obedience except with patience; and we cannot stay away from falsehood and disobedience except with patience and perseverance. We cannot walk the paths of this life except with patience regarding the pre-ordinance of Allaah. The outcome is jannat al-qulb war-ridwaan – the endless bliss in Paradise and the Pleasure of Allaah سبحانه وتعالى. Allaah سبحانه وتعالى says in Surah Fussilat, verse 35:

وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا ذُو حَظٍ عَظِيمٍ

{But none is granted it except those who are patient – and none is granted it except the owner of the great portion (of happiness in the Hereafter, i.e., Paradise, and of a high moral character) in this world.} [Fussilat 41:35]

Entertain Guests Generously

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should not harm his neighbor, and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should entertain his guest generously, and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should talk what is good or keep quiet.” [Sahih Bukhari]

The only thing that allows a person to behave morally, when there is no one to notice any lapses, is the belief that Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) is always watching and that each moment of our existence will be either a source of reward or punishment for us on the Day of Judgement. Those who believe this are told by the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) to do three things:

1. Not harm their neighbours.

2. Entertain their guests generously.

3. Abstain from useless, immoral and every kind of sinful speech.

It has become somewhat of a trend to view guests as burdens, when the fact of the matter is that they are providing us with additional opportunities of earning Jannat. Regardless of who they are, Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) will reward us for what we spend on them of time, effort and material resources.

Regarding the duties of hosts, Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) advised us to provide guests with food of a higher quality than what we normally eat ourselves, on the first day. On the second and third day we may give the kind of food that we regularly consume. Beyond this, what we do for them counts as Sadaqa.

Whether we obey a Fard (obligatory) command or a Sunnah/Nafl (voluntary) one, we are rewarded for it by Allah (subhana wa ta’ala), though the reward for fulfilling a Fard is greater.
